ETHAN HENDRICKS

EAST GREENVILLE, PA

Ethan Hendricks is a well-spoken and intelligent young man, and we feel he will make a great addition to our U21 team.

Ethan started riding about 5 years ago, simply as a way to and from work. He’s always enjoyed riding bikes. Once he found out there was a sport behind it and there were races happening locally, he signed up for his first one as soon as he could.

He then reached out to local junior teams in the area and he was beyond lucky to get onto a junior development team (Gotham Cyclists). Ethan was introduced to track racing, which he became addicted to instantly. He worked his way up to Category 2 on the track in about 2 years and worked his way up to Category 3 on the road in about 3 years. Ethan is currently going into his fourth season of racing. However, the first year was limited due to Covid-19 and the second year because he crashed out near the beginning of the season.

In the past he didn’t do too many sports, he competed in track and field for a season during high school and did other martial arts classes. However, he always had a competitive aspect. Ethan enjoys competing whether it's racing, other sports, board games, ect. He always enjoyed the competitive nature and found it intriguing.

He is currently attending Penn State Lehigh Valley which he is also racing for collegiately. He is looking to pursue a sports medicine major. He currently works a few jobs as a wellness coach and personal trainer.

Who do you admire the most?
Of course, he has to say his parents. They raised him to be who he is today. However, he would say he deeply admires his grandfather who passed away a few years ago. He fought in WW2 and faced so many challenges to which the odds of him surviving were extremely slim. Even with those war experiences (he won’t go into detail, they’re quite graphic), his grandfather always had a positive outlook on life and never had hate towards his enemies in the past. He thinks that is a great way to live life, especially in sport. We all have enemies, and we can call them enemies. But in cycling terms we’re all people who love to race and we shouldn’t hate each other for also liking bicycle racing.

What was your favorite race in 2022?
Ethan’s favorite event last year would have to be the Historic Riverton Criterium. It is in such a beautiful area and is a very fun, technical, flowing course which made it very challenging. A lot of people come out to watch which makes it even more fun to race in.

When you are not training how do you like to spend your time?

Ethan enjoys ice hockey/ice skating with friends. He also enjoys helping others reach fitness goals and living healthy lifestyles.

Recent notable results include:
• Top 10 in UCI Level Scratch Race
• Top 3 in 15+ Pro/1/2 Level Track Races
• Top 10 in Tour of Plainfield
• 3rd in South Mountain Cycle Criterium
