Bruce Rivera grew up in Detroit, MI and currently lives in Beverly Hills, MI. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1994 with a Bachelor degree in Biology and Physical Education. He also received his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Exercise Physiology. Bruce went on to teach high school Biology and AP Biology in Livonia Public Schools for over 20 years. He also enjoyed coaching wrestling, track and field and cross country at Churchill High School. He currently is an Assistant Principal at Churchill High School where he still enjoys working with high school students and helping them reach their potential both academically and athletically. Bruce has been married to his wife, Jennifer, for over 27 years and they have two children, Christopher, age 18, and Jenna, age 15. Jennifer is currently a physical education teacher in the Livonia Public School district. Christopher will also be a member of the Cleveland Cycling Academy, while his daughter, Jenna, enjoys competitive running and is captain of her high school’s cross-country team. Bruce started competing in criteriums and road racing the summer of 1989. He loved reading the most recent VeloNews articles and watching Greg Lemond win the Tour de France. Needless to say he was hooked and hasn’t stopped racing since. He has raced all over the Midwest with some of his favorite races being the Tour of Elk Grove, Downers Grove, Super Week, the Tour de Michigan, and more recently, Hyde Park Blast weekend. Recently, Bruce has enjoyed racing criteriums and track racing around the country with his son, Christopher, watching him improve and achieve some of their racing goals together. They are both very excited to be a part of the Cleveland Cycling Academy and continue racing together as a father and son duo, even though Christopher is probably faster than his dad. Bruce is looking forward to coaching and mentoring some of the Cleveland Cycling Academy athletes helping them achieve their goals and have a great time doing it. He can only hope to share his love and passion for the sport with the U21 team so one day they may have a memorable career filled with great results and fun times. Bruce has had some great results in his long career but here are some highlights: • 2014 - Masters 35+ Michigan State Road Race - 1st • 2015 - Masters 35+ Michigan Criterium Championship - 3rd • 2016 - Masters 45+ Michigan Criterium Championship - 4th • 2017 - Masters 45+ Detroit Corktown Criterium - 1st • 2021 - Masters 45+ Michigan Criterium Championship - 3rd
